Frequently Asked Questions

Our FAQ section for Alpine Hill serves as a convenient hub of information, providing clear, comprehensive answers to the most commonly asked questions about our facility, services, and care procedures. We’ve designed it to assist you in your journey to understand our offering better and make informed decisions for your loved ones.

An Adult Family Home is one of the living arrangements available to senior citizens who cannot comfortably or safely live alone.

AFHs offer a more customized approach to care within a homely environment, as opposed to larger care facilities where the caregiver to resident ratio may reach 1:20. AFHs usually maintain a ratio of 2:6 or, at worst, 1:6, which ensures that residents receive more individualized attention. At Prairie Vista, residents and caregivers form a closely-knit family and interact as such.

While they usually provide comparable care, Adult Family Homes vary in the degree of care they offer. In Washington State, the number of residents is restricted to six based on the home’s capacity or capability. In certain cases, there might be only one room, while others might have shared rooms due to size limitations. Larger homes might offer private rooms, which are typically more expensive than shared ones. Shared rooms are frequently available to individuals with restricted Medicaid funding or due to space restrictions in the home.

Qualified assessors are available to conduct assessments for an average cost of $400. Our nurse delegator is a qualified assessor and offers reasonable rates. Under the law, an assessment must be conducted to determine the care needs of your loved one and create a corresponding care plan. Rates are determined based on a base rate and additional levels of care. If you need assistance reaching our assessor, please contact us and we will provide you with the necessary information.

At Prairie Vista, we employ a comprehensive points system, referred to as ‘levels of care’, to establish a resident’s monthly rate. We aim to tailor our care as closely as possible to the individual needs of each resident. We accept Medicaid as a form of payment, but only after a 24-month spend-down period using private funds. This ensures we can maintain the highest quality of personalized care for your loved ones throughout their stay with us.

Our primary goal is to provide superior care for your loved ones, and we distinguish ourselves from other Adult Family Homes through our all-inclusive approach. We invest in all required medical aids and equipment to guarantee our residents’ comfort and convenience without any additional expenses. Importantly, our rate includes personal care items, and the necessary RN delegation and annual assessments, thereby ensuring a comprehensive care package. However, it’s important to note that over-the-counter (OTC) prescriptions are not included in this plan.

Adult Family Home employees and providers are required to complete training in various areas, such as the Fundamentals of Caregiving, Nurse Delegation, CPR/First Aid, Mental Health and Dementia, and Food Handling. Moreover, a background check is conducted and caregivers must acquire a Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR) card that is registered with the Department of Health.

Yes, according to state regulations, there must always be a caregiver present in the home.

Our attentive caregivers are readily available to provide personalized assistance with all daily living activities. To ensure our residents’ safety, we utilize various monitoring systems such as call buttons, sensors, and alarms. Our caregivers are always in close proximity to promptly respond to any resident needs.

Adult Family Homes must comply with safety regulations that mandate the installation of safety bars and grab rails to ensure the safety and protection of residents. Nevertheless, bathrooms in AFHs are similar to those found in typical homes, with the majority of them having one or two bathrooms equipped with adaptive aids that are shared by all residents.

All of our rooms come fully furnished and include complimentary television and phone services.

At Prairie Vista Adult Family Home, we offer a unique approach called “Aging in Place” which allows our residents to stay in the same comfortable home environment and receive hospice care when needed. This approach eliminates the need for hospitalization or placement in a nursing home, which can cause unnecessary distress for the family and be costly. The resident can remain in a familiar and comfortable setting unless a physician indicates otherwise.

Our policy is to keep our doors open during our regular hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

While we aim to provide comprehensive care, we do not have a visiting home doctor, nor do we provide free prescription deliveries. Arranging doctor appointments, securing medications, and organizing transportation falls under the responsibility of the resident’s family. This allows families to maintain active involvement in the medical management of their loved ones, aligning with the healthcare providers of their choice.

We follow a per diem rate policy for the initial month, which means we charge based on the actual days the resident stays with us or has reserved a room in the middle of the month. For example, if a resident moves in or reserves a room on the 15th of the month, they will only be billed for the remaining days of that month. This approach allows for a fair and flexible transition process.

At Prairie Vista, we follow a prorated billing system for the first month. This means that the resident will only be charged for the days they have actually resided in the home or have reserved the room for themselves. For instance, if a resident moves in or reserves the room on the 15th of the month, they will only be charged for half a month on their first invoice.

We assume the responsibility of coordinating with the resident’s physician and ensuring the maintenance and provision of all prescribed medications. Our use of the Synkwise (www.synkwise.com) software aids in tracking medication intake, which is logged in our system. Additionally, we securely store the medication in a locked location solely accessible to medical personnel.

Prairie Vista Adult Family Home maintains a smoke-free environment for both residents and staff, and smoking is strictly prohibited on our premises. Additionally, we do not allow any alcohol consumption on the premises for the safety and well-being of our residents.
